Teacher Recognition Week is the first full week of May in the United States. It is a time of celebration as students find ways to thank their teachers for their help during the academic year. Teacher Recognition Day is a special day of this festive week that students and teachers often look forward to.
This week is an exciting time for teachers and students and a welcome change from everyday school life.
Every year students develop new and innovative ways to appreciate their teachers. Gifts like chocolates and flowers are a thing of the past and are being replaced by more creative gifts. This can be anything from a pencil case to a scrapbook full of teacher quotes, memories, and jokes. Students want to add a personal touch to their gifts and new ideas are developed every year. It’s a great way to let them know how much they value their efforts with their work. It could be the opportunity to come up with an innovative idea for your favorite teacher.
In addition to gifts, students also organize events and activities that are fun for everyone. Some of these are concerts, musicals, shows and sports tournaments. Teachers can join in and submit their “teacher status” for the day.
A popular idea for this event is to organize an awards ceremony. During the week students can nominate teachers for prizes and at the end of the week the prizes are awarded to the teachers. Categories could be “most creative,” “most helpful,” “funniest teacher,” the list goes on. This will keep students and teachers busy all week. Communication barriers are lowered as teachers and students can enjoy the activities and events organized for the week. Why don’t you organize this event for Teacher Recognition Day 2009? It would be the perfect day to say thank you to your favorite teacher.
The concept of appreciating teachers is celebrated around the world, but some countries celebrate it differently than others. This year the schools got to know different countries and see how they celebrate. Students can explore different cultures and could use a particular culture to study and teach for that day. It could also be used as research for teachers who want to adapt to different styles of teaching and students could be more interested in what they are being taught and how they are being taught.
Teaching is a job that requires a lot of patience and understanding. It can be tough and stressful at times, which is why this event is so important. Teachers need a confidence boost to know that they are doing their job well. The recognition that teachers receive is “not among the best in society”, although we entrust them with the most valuable things; our children and their education. Grades and grades tell them if they are doing their job well, but they may not know if the students enjoyed their class and work. Teachers will appreciate compliments from their students and they will feel much happier teaching the next students in the following academic year.
Students can learn more about their teachers during the week. Students may feel the need to keep their distance from their teachers as this can seem “uncool”. However, everything changes for this week. Students learn what they like so much about their teacher and why they like that particular teacher so much. Students will be able to rate their teacher and ask themselves the following questions; Have I learned any values from my teacher? Can I contact my teacher if I have any problems related to work or even personal issues? Did I enjoy the class all year round? Students can then compare their answers with those of their classmates and know why they value their teacher so much.
Teacher Recognition Week 2009 is not just for current students. Alumni can also choose to appreciate a teacher who taught them during their school days. Students can send their favorite teacher a gift and tell them why they remember them after leaving school. This proves that this week can be enjoyed by everyone.
In addition to former and current students, international students can also take part in this special week. Teacher Recognition Week is a great opportunity for international students to join the celebrations and have fun.
